Private tours present the museum’s collections and exhibitions during general opening hours. Ateneum’s guides provide fascinating insights into exhibitions by focusing on specific works of art. Introductory lectures are held in the Ateneum Hall, where you can sit comfortably while listening to an expert present the content and background of exhibitions. Images of the art are displayed at the same time. Following the lecture you can enjoy the exhibition at your own pace.

Only guides that are authorised and trained by the Ateneum can guide visitors around the museum. The exceptions to this are school groups that visit exhibitions under the guidance of their teachers.

Under the Surface guided tour

Nordic and East Asian art share the idea of everyday beauty and a connection with nature. Under the Surface is a special guided tour of the Silent Beauty exhibition for small groups. During the tour, the emphasis is on calming down and enjoying a few selected works – maintaining an accepting presence, giving art time, and opening up to its impact. The guide engages the participants in an interactive discussion on art. The materiality of art is also felt through the sense of touch with the help of small ceramic objects.
