Tove Jansson (1914–2001) was a fiercely independent spirit whose first priorities were freedom and intense passion for her work. She is famous throughout the world for her stories and illustrations featuring the Moomins. Jansson was an extremely versatile artist: she painted, wrote, illustrated and made comics and political cartoons. She also worked with the theatre and animated films. Although Jansson worked simultaneously with several media, she always considered herself primarily a painter.
The touring exhibition comprises approximately 170 works from the collections of Tampere Art Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum, as well as private collections. It is curated by Ateneum’s chief curator Sointu Fritze.
The exhibition is[M1] accompanied by a publication, in Swedish and English, produced by Förlaget.
