People of all ages are welcome

Attend Saturday workshops and become familiar with a variety of visual art techniques! We organise two separate but identical Saturday workshops. Register at Ticket Sales on the day of the workshop.

You are most welcome to attend, whether you are an art virtuoso or are holding a paintbrush for the first time in your life! Both adults and children are welcome in the workshops. Admission is free for those under 18 years old.

The workshops are recommended for ages five and up. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The workshops include instruction, necessary materials and equipment.

Each workshop lasts for 1 hour and 15 minutes and is held in the Ateneum’s workshop space on the second-level mezzanine.

The Saturday workshops are not for groups.

4 Sep and 11 Sep: Dreamland – experimental textile printing
We create our own patches using the emulsion-spraying technique, which can be used to create painterly surfaces on fabric.

18 Sep and 19 Sep: Frame by frame – mixed media
We process an old slide by scratching and painting over it, in the spirit of the artist Eino Ruutsalo.

25 Sep and 2 Oct: Portrait of a flower – gouache painting
We study and paint flowers using water-dilutable gouache paints.

9 Oct and 16 Oct: Ragged line – drypoint printing
We explore the drypoint technique, in which an image is incised onto the surface of a printing plate. Participants print their own works on paper using a press.

23 Oct and 30 Oct: OtherBeing – scraperboard
We study various creatures, characters, and metamorphoses in Outi Heiskanen’s works, and create our own works using the scraperboard technique. Participants draw an image on scraperboard using various cutters.

6 Nov and 13 Nov: The name of the game – liquid ink
We explore the world of Outi Heiskanen’s works featuring playing cards, and create our own cards by painting and drawing with liquid ink markers.

20 Nov: Gossamer-thin – felting
We create a small translucent object using wet and needle felting techniques: a butterfly, a dragonfly, a flower or a snowflake.

27 Nov: Gossamer-thin – textile printing
We create our own fabric patches using the stamping and emulsion-spraying techniques.

11 Dec: Ragged line – drypoint printing
We explore the drypoint technique, in which an image is incised onto the surface of a printing plate. Participants print their own works on paper using a press.
