People of all ages are welcome

Attend Saturday workshops and become familiar with a variety of visual art techniques! We organise two separate but identical Saturday workshops. Register at ticket sales on the day of the workshop.

You are most welcome to attend, whether you are an art virtuoso or are holding a paintbrush for the first time in your life! Both adults and children are welcome in the workshops. Admission is free for those under 18 years old.

The workshops are recommended for ages five and up. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The workshops include instruction, necessary materials and equipment.

Each workshop lasts for 1 hour and 15 minutes and is held in the Ateneum’s workshop space on the second-level mezzanine.

The Saturday workshops are not for groups.

Workshop themes

See workshop themes

Sat 15 Jan and Sat 22 Jan Snow Light – liquid watercolours
This workshop involves painting with liquid watercolours, wet on wet. We seek inspiration from winter-themed landscape paintings in the Ateneum’s collections.

Sat 29 Jan and Sat 5 Feb Speed and Movement – monotype
This workshop involves the use of monotype inks in a process of inking, painting and pressing. The end result is a unique monotype work. We seek inspiration from works by Eino Ruutsalo.

Sat 12 Feb and Sat 19 Feb Spaces and Houses – collage and mixed media
This workshop involves making a paper collage using drawing instruments and gouache paints. We seek inspiration from the urban themes featured in The Modern Woman exhibition.

Sat 26 Feb and Sat 5 Mar Everyday Beauty – pastel painting
This workshop involves exploring a painting technique that uses pastels to create an image on special paper. We seek inspiration from the still-life and pastel works in The Modern Woman exhibition.

Sat 12 Mar and Sat 19 Mar Shadow Flowers – drawing and painting
This workshop involves exploring the possibilities of watercolour pencils, drawing, and creating washes. We seek inspiration from the floral works in the Dialogue exhibition.
