Anna-Maria von Bonsdorff has been chosen as our new director

The board of the Finnish National Gallery has chosen Anna-Maria von Bonsdorff as the Director of the Ateneum Art Museum for a five-year term starting on January 1, 2024, when the current Director, Marja Sakari, retires.

Anna-Maria von Bonsdorff, who was elected as Ateneum’s director, has a doctorate in art history. She has worked as Ateneum’s Chief Curator since 2013.
Von Bonsdorff has led and curated numerous international exhibition projects such as Helene Schjerfbeck (London, Japan, Frankfurt), Amedeo Modigliani and František Kupka. She is known as a special connoisseur of Finnish art of the late 19th and 20th centuries and an active international actor.

“It is very great that we got FT Anna-Maria von Bonsdorff as the museum director of Ateneum. Under her leadership, Ateneum has good conditions to continue its current success and to take Ateneum into the 2030s as part of the Finnish National Gallery’s museum complex,” says Matti Vanhanen, chairman of the board.
