Finnish and Norwegian art in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was strongly influenced by Symbolism. Instead of the real world, artists were inspired by myths, legends and the direct relationships between people and nature.
This joint exhibition by Ateneum and the Norwegian National Museum presents major works by leading artist such as Edvard Munch, Gerhard Munthe, Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Hugo Simberg and Theodor Kittelsen.
The curators of the exhibition are Timo Huusko and Vibeke Waallann Hansen.
